  • Make sure to study all of the resources provided to you to prepare you for the exams. Including the TEST SIMULATOR - which is in your online course underneath 'NHIE RESOURCES'. 
  • Even if the National Home Inspector Examination is not required in your state we highly recommend that you take it. 
  • To advance your membership with the All American Association of Home Inspectors passing the NHIE is required.

Content on the NHIE

The content of the National Home Inspector Examination is based on a formal study that defines competent practice. The computer-based examination tests three performance domains. The list below indicates the percentage of the NHIE devoted to each:

 Analysis and Reporting (24%)

 Business Operations (12%)

Where to take the NHIE

EBPHI contracts with PSI, Inc. to administer the NHIE at more than 220 proctored test centers throughout North America.


The following locations use other proctors:

Illinois, South Dakota, Washington, and Canada: The Home Inspector Examination in Illinois, South Dakota, Washington, and Canada is administered by Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP).

Florida, Texas and Nevada: The Home Inspector Examination in Florida, Texas and Nevada is administered by PearsonVUE.


Cost to take the NHIE

The cost of the National Home Inspector Examination is $225 per test in most states and $325 in Canada. Please confirm when you call the testing center to register.
