Once you have completed all of your training and have received your certificates of completion you can apply to TREC to sit for your licensing exams.  DO NOT apply to TREC unless you have received your certificates.  

  • Complete the application and mail it to TREC with your certificates of completion, ride along forms and fees ($120 application fee, $27 background check fee IF you already have fingerprints on file with TREC)  Do not send cash 
  • TREC will review your application and issue you an ID to register for fingerprinting and the licensing exams 
  • You will need to have fingerprints on file with the Department of Public Safety (DPS) after you apply to TREC  Click here
  • Register, take, and pass the National and State Licensing exams 
  • Upon successful completion of the exam and finalization of the application process submit a $10 fee to the Inspector Recovery Fund - do not send this fee until you are requested to 
  • Provide proof of professional liability insurance, a surety bond, or any other guaranty that provides coverage for violations.  You can use either the TREC Certificate of an Insurance form or the Proof of Financial Responsibility form.  

You have 12 months to complete the licensing process from the time you apply, if all requirements are not met within one year you will need to submit as a new applicant.
