Below are some frequently asked questions and help specific for the Texas programs.

The date assigned on my courses is not the same as when I enrolled.

The course assigned date are not necessarily the date the courses were assigned to you, the date could be the date the course was initially assigned to the classroom itself.

The time in my classroom doesn't show all of the hours I have completed.

You will be conducting hours of study outside of the online classroom that will not be reflected in your online portal. The hours in your classroom may not reflect all of the hours of studying and activities you have done.

How long will it take me to complete this training.

Depending upon which program you are enrolled in, the time to complete will vary.  For the 154 hour program you will need to spend 3-4 weeks in your online portal.

Why do I have to take a proctored exam for my online courses?

TREC requires proctored final exams for both in-class and online training, this is why you must multiple final exams.

Are there fees for proctoring?

We have multiple ways to proctor your courses! If you schedule with one of our ATI Staff or take your final exam during one of our live classroom sessions, it will be Free. If our time frames are not convenient for your schedule, we have partnered with through ProctorU and they do charge minimal fees for registering. If the exam is scheduled/rescheduled less than 72 hours out, an extra $5 fee will be charged.

Why do I have to take the same courses more than once?

TREC requires some courses to be completed multiple times for licensing requirements. Courses that are taken multple times need to be completed on different days.

Can I take these classes in a classroom?

The core qualifying hours are conducted online, the additional 24 hours of classroom and 40 hours of in-field training are conducted in a classroom.

What does TREC mean by experience requirements?

In addition to the core qualifying hours conducted online, to become a Professional Inspector you will need one of the following:

40-Hour ride along experience courses (We Provide This!)

Three years as an active licensed professional engineer, engineer-in-training, or licensed/registered architect (provide a license history)

Five years personal experience in a field directly related to home inspecting (provide two reference letters from persons other than applicant with personal knowledge of applicant's work)

How will I know if my experience counts towards licensing?

Only TREC can determine if your experience will count towards licensing.  You can email them at information@trec.texas.gov to confirm.

Can I review my final exam?

No, to keep the exam(s) content secure we are not allowed to provide the test questions and answers.

How long will it take TREC to process my application?

Processing times vary, you can check on the application processing time here.

On average it takes around four months from start of training to licensing.
